Ischemic heart disease
Ischemic heart disease is caused by a decrease in the blood supply to a specific area of the heart secondary to an artery becoming blocked. Arterial obstruction can occur gradually or it can be acute, sudden, abrupt, in the first case (gradual obstruction) it is clinically manifested by chest pain that occurs with effort and improves with rest of approximately 20min.
In the acute setting, the obstruction is abrupt, acute or sudden, it manifests with chest pain while at rest, it only increases in severity and does not improve with rest or with medicine and it usually persist for more 30 minutes, it is accompanied by paleness, nausea, cold sweating and feeling scared.
It is estimated that in Mexico there are about 650,000 patients who suffer from refractory arterial hypertension, that is, they do not respond to treatment. It is a type of hypertension that, despite the administration of three or more drugs in proper dosage, blood pressure levels remain elevated above 160/90 mm Hg. The percentage of refractory patients (who do not respond) to medical treatment varies according to communities, but the average is around 10% of all hypertensive patients.
Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is a condition that has to do with the rhythm of the heartbeat, this is the most common type of arrhythmia and is due to a problem in the electrical system of the heart.
In this clinic our main objective is to improve the quality of life and improve life expectancy. A dilated heart does not work well, it is not effective, it does not pump blood adequately and it tries to compensate by beating faster which leads to further clinical deterioration.
It is a non-invasive test that obtains a record of the cardiac electrical activity. It is done through electrodes placed on the skin, which detect the different electrical impulses of the heart. The Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is recorded through electrodes placed at specific spots on the chest and body and are used to obtain an electrical record of the different parts of the heart provide us with detailed information of the heart activity to be able to make a precise diagnosis.
The electrocardiographic Holter is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that obtains a record of the electrical activity of the heart during a period of time, generally 24 hours, the study is ambulatory and the data collected is subsequently analyzed by the cardiologist.
It is a test that uses high-frequency ultrasound waves, emitted by a probe, when these waved collide with the structures of the heart and blood vessels, they bounce and they produce a moving image, allowing the heart to be seen in motion. This image appears on a video screen and can be recorded on a DVD and a printed report is generated. The image produced is more detailed than X-rays and does not involve radiation exposure.
It is an electrocardiography study that is obtained in order to assess possible alterations in the electrical activity of the heart during a situation of physical stress. This type of test provided more detailed information that is not captured on the baseline ekg.
